Despite growing up in a low socioeconomic environment, I was the first person in my family to graduate from university. I completed my honours degree in psychology in 2015.
When I was young I didn't have a lot of positive role models around me, so I looked to the internet for guidance. This is where I found video. I found people who spoke with authenticity, purpose and passion. These people coached, mentored and inspired me into the person I am today. Watching this kind of content was the seed that started Video Why.
In 2017 I was lucky enough to meet a great mentor. He was a lawyer and had become very successful in the corporate world. However, he found himself hating the work he was doing. The law firm he worked for had a relentless focus on profit often at the expense of the client. After becoming discontent, he left to start his own law firm that would focus on purpose first, profit second.
My mentor taught me about purpose.
We discussed how a focus on purpose leads to greater contribution, growth and outcomes for both a business and client. Purpose will resonate with the people you seek to serve and benefit the community as a whole. Without a focus on purpose people are likely to lose sight of the bigger picture and not achieve their most important outcomes. Purpose is powerful.
After many discussions on this topic, we came to the idea of creating video content about a business's purpose. This is how Video Why was created.
Since then we have made a commitment to art, truth and authenticity in our work. We exist to create content with purpose so that, no matter who you are, as long as you have purpose, you can powerfully market your products and services.
